FAQs

Some of your common questions

What is the difference between medical and wellness infusions?

Medical infusions are targeted treatments designed to address specific health conditions or symptoms, following a thorough assessment by a qualified health practitioner. These infusions may include prescription medications, high-dose vitamins, or therapeutic nutrients aimed at correcting deficiencies, managing illness, or supporting recovery from a diagnosed condition.

Wellness infusions, in contrast, are designed to support general health, energy, and vitality. They typically include vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, or other nutrients delivered at safe, effective doses. Wellness infusions are not intended to diagnose, treat, or cure any medical condition, but rather to promote overall wellbeing and recovery from everyday stress or fatigue.

Both types of infusions are administered by trained professionals to ensure safety, effectiveness, and optimal results for your body.

Don't we just pee out wellness infusions?

While it’s true that excess water-soluble vitamins (like Vitamin C and B vitamins) are excreted in urine, IV infusions deliver nutrients directly into the bloodstream at levels that are much higher than what the digestive system can absorb from oral supplements. This allows your body to rapidly access and use these nutrients for energy, immune support, cellular repair, and overall wellness. Many people notice immediate benefits because the infusion bypasses the gut, so more of the vitamins and minerals are available where your body needs them most.

Are IV wellness infusions safe?

Yes. All of our IV infusions are administered by highly trained registered healthcare professionals using sterile techniques and clinically approved equipment. We carefully assess each client’s medical history and ensure the correct formulation and dosage for their needs. Our staff are equipped to manage severe allergic reactions (which are very rare), prioritising your safety and comfort throughout the infusion process.

Are IV wellness infusions approved in New Zealand?

In New Zealand, IV wellness infusions (such as vitamin and minerals) are not specifically approved medical treatments. While the same vitamins and minerals may be available as oral supplements, their intravenous use places them under the Medicines Act, meaning they are treated as medicines rather than dietary supplements.

Because these infusions are administered to optimise wellbeing rather than to treat an established disease, their use is considered 'off-label', which means a prescription is required. MyHydrate arranges this as part of your consultation process. All infusions are prescribed by a registered medical practitioner and administered by registered health professionals in accordance with New Zealand’s regulatory standards.

What do I need at home for the infusion?

To receive an in-home IV infusion, you’ll just need a private, comfortable space where you can relax for the duration of the treatment—such as a lounge chair or recliner. The area should have good lighting, a nearby power outlet, and easy access for our clinical team to set up their equipment safely.

Are your staff police vetted?

All of our staff are police vetted to the level required for registered health practitioners. This includes the Children's Act requirements.

What happens if if have an allergic reaction?

All of our staff are highly trained, registered healthcare professionals with extensive experience in administering IV infusions safely. In the unlikely event of an allergic reaction, they carry the necessary emergency equipment and medications, ensuring your safety and peace of mind throughout your treatment.
