The Law & Wellness Infusions

While our IV Medical Infusions are treatments for specific medical conditions, our Wellness Infusions are not intended to treat, cure, or prevent any medical condition. Wellness infusions are used as a complementary wellness measure and not as a substitute for professional medical advice or treatment.

IV infusions, including those containing only vitamins, minerals and nutrient supplements are regarded as having a therapeutic purpose (per s3 and 4 of the Medicines Act 1981), and are therefore considered medicines. Therefore, when being administered any Vitamin, Mineral, Nutrient, Supplement or Medicine by the IV route, these are considered either Approved (licensed by Medsafe for use in New Zealand) or Unapproved medicines (not licensed for use).

Approved medicines: while many ingredients used in our wellness infusions are approved medicines, when used as part of a wellness infusion, these are often administered outside the approved indication, which is known as "off-label" use.

Unapproved Medicines: some ingredients used in wellness infusions are unapproved medicines in New Zealand.

The Law & Unapproved Medicines: Unapproved medicines in New Zealand can still be safely and legally administered under Section 29 of the Medicines Act 1981. This requires the medicine to be prescribed by a New Zealand Registered Medical Practitioner, and administrations to be reported to the New Zealand-based importer or manufacturer, who is then required to report a subset of this information to Medsafe.

MyHydrate administers all wellness infusions in conjunction with a prescription from our partner Medical Practitioners, following a clinical consultation.

Supply Chain: All our ingredients are procured from either New Zealand licensed / based Wholesale Pharmacies, or from New Zealand licensed compounding pharmacies.

Advertising Specific Wellness Infusions: while we would love to advertise specific wellness infusions, Section 20 of the Medicines Act 1981 prohibits medicines that are unapproved or being used "off-label" from being advertised.
